Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has publicly expressed his gratitude to former U.S. President Donald Trump for the decision to lift sanctions on Syria, calling it an important step toward achieving stability in the Middle East.
“I thank Mr. Trump for this courageous decision. It is a positive step that can directly influence regional stability,” Erdogan said during a speech to members of his AK Party.
He also mentioned the former U.S. president in the context of the crisis in Gaza, expressing hope for imminent improvements in the humanitarian situation there.
“We hope to soon receive good news about Gaza that will bring relief to our hearts.”
Erdogan further confirmed that he had participated virtually in a meeting held in Saudi Arabia, which was also attended by Donald Trump, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa.
One of the key points in his speech was his reaction to the reported dissolution of the Kurdish militant group PKK, which he welcomed, but also warned that this alone is not enough.
