California Governor Gavin Newsom and the state’s Attorney General, Rob Bonta, have filed a lawsuit against U.S. President Donald Trump over his order to federalize and deploy the National Guard to Los Angeles, Rks News reports.
The lawsuit was submitted in response to the deployment of 2,000 troops for a 60-day period without the consent of state authorities. According to the governor and attorney general, this action constitutes a serious violation of the U.S. Constitution, infringing upon states’ rights under the Tenth Amendment.
“The president is trying to manufacture a crisis for political purposes,” Bonta declared, calling the move “a blatant abuse of presidential power.”
The lawsuit seeks a court injunction to block the implementation of Trump’s executive order, which California officials have described as unlawful and unprecedented.
