On the 14th anniversary of the passing of Nekibe Kelmendi — renowned lawyer, human rights advocate, and former Minister of Justice — President Vjosa Osmani has paid tribute to her extraordinary contribution to freedom and justice in Kosovo, Rks News reports.
President Osmani described Kelmendi as:
“A tireless defender of human rights, a courageous political activist, and a close collaborator of our historic president, Dr. Ibrahim Rugova.”
She highlighted Kelmendi’s unwavering strength, even after the brutal murder of her husband and sons by the genocidal Serbian regime. Despite the personal tragedy, Kelmendi never gave up on the fight for liberty, dignity, and justice.
President Osmani also praised Kelmendi’s key role in state-building processes, including her contribution to the drafting of Kosovo’s first Constitution and other foundational state initiatives.
“Glory to her life and legacy!” the President concluded in her commemorative message.
