The Union of Education, Science, and Culture of Kosovo (SBASHK) has strongly reacted to efforts to replace employment contracts for pre-university teachers in the municipality of Vushtrri.
In a press release, SBASHK stated that the new contract version being proposed contradicts Administrative Instruction 10/2015, which remains in force and, according to the union, offers fewer rights to teachers.
“SBASHK appeals to Pre-University Education Teachers: Do not sign new employment contracts.
In recent days, in the municipality of Vushtrri, there has been a renewed push for the signing of new employment contracts, despite the fact that pre-university education teachers already hold open-ended contracts. The new version of the contract contradicts Administrative Instruction 10/2015, currently in force, and stipulates fewer rights compared to existing contracts,” the statement reads.
SBASHK has issued a public call to the municipality of Vushtrri to stop this practice, which it deems harmful and a form of pressure on teaching staff.
“SBASHK calls on the municipality of Vushtrri to immediately halt this wrongful practice and pressure on teachers, and calls on all other municipalities not to follow this damaging example, which infringes on the guaranteed rights of workers.”
The union emphasized that any attempt to impose unfavorable contracts violates legal provisions and constitutes a direct breach of the Labor Code.
“We also appeal to all our members who hold open-ended contracts not to sign these new versions, even if they feel pressured by their employers.
Let us remind everyone that any form of coercion to sign a disadvantageous contract constitutes a violation of the Labor Code (Law No. 03/L-212), and may result in legal consequences for the employer. Such cases can and should be reported to SBASHK for institutional handling,”** the statement concludes.
