A tragic incident has occurred in San Giacomo di Pederobba, Italy, near Treviso, where a 9-year-old girl from North Macedonia drowned in the Piave River yesterday, June 29.
The girl, identified as A. Islam, a resident of Cavasso del Tomba, was on an excursion along the river with her parents, Ihmet and Naila, and her younger siblings. Reports indicate she was playing on the rocks with other children when she suddenly slipped and fell into the water. The strong current quickly pulled her away, and she disappeared from the sight of her family and witnesses.
Rescue Efforts and Recovery
Emergency teams, including firefighters, carabinieri, and divers, immediately rushed to the scene. After an extensive search, around 6:30 PM, divers from the fire department unit found the girl’s body trapped among rocks in the river.
The mayor and deputy mayor of San Giacomo di Pederobba expressed their profound condolences to the family, assuring them of the local authorities’ full support during this difficult time.
Consular Assistance for Repatriation
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of North Macedonia has confirmed that a notification about the tragic event was submitted to the Macedonian consulate in Venice. The consulate is in regular communication with the deceased’s family to complete all necessary administrative procedures for transporting her remains back to North Macedonia.
