In its meeting yesterday, the Executive Board of the FDP City of Zurich Party decided on three candidates to propose to the delegates of FDP City of Zurich for nomination to the City Council (executive) of Zurich on September 4. The nominees are City Councilor Michael Baumer, City Councilor Marita Verbali, and City Councilor and Party President, Perparim Avdili.

The committee recommends Perparim Avdili as the candidate for City President, or mayor, according to a press release sent by the party.

The FDP City of Zurich is thus preparing for the election campaign with a competent and diverse three-person team, albinfo.ch reports. They aim to support a new, cosmopolitan, innovative, and business-friendly Zurich, and to end the obstructive culture of prohibition and excessive bureaucracy.

Perparim Avdili: A Profile for Action and Innovation

The communiqué presents the three candidates, evaluating their profiles for the proposed positions. In the presentation of Perparim Avdili, it is stated, among other things, that he is “an active person with a creative drive for the Zurich City Council.”

Zurich must once again become an innovative economic, cultural, and knowledge metropolis, a vibrant place of diversity and progress. This requires a dedicated mayor who makes this promise tangible in daily life – with fair opportunities for housing, at work, and in our neighborhoods,” the statement reads.

Avdili himself, announcing his candidacy on social media, wrote that he grew up in Zurich, a child of an immigrant family.

“I went to school in Altstetten and Albisrieden and still regularly play football with my friends in the neighborhood. Occasionally, we even watch a football match at Letzigrund. Admittedly, with a slight preference for the city club. After completing my commercial training, I began my career in Zurich’s financial center. Today, I am the Chief Financial Officer of the non-profit training company libs, located in Northern Zurich, where we support 1,500 trainees in the mechanical, electrical, and metal industries in their careers. I love what I do and I love this city. And I have deep roots here,” he wrote.

According to Avdili, the city has been merely administered for years, “without courage. Without color. Without soul. I want Zurich to continue to develop.

For Zurich to flourish. For Zurich to finally be perceived as a metropolis. Therefore, I want a city that has a sense of purpose. An end to the administrative way of the recent years. If we want to be relevant, we must be visible and audible. Visible and audible as a cosmopolitan, diverse, creative, and courageous city. This requires leadership – with vision, empathy, and enthusiasm…” Avdili further wrote.
