he Turkish Ministry of National Defense announced on Monday that the death toll for soldiers exposed to methane gas in a cave in northern Iraq has risen to 12. The incident occurred during a search operation.

Search Operation Turns Fatal

The soldiers were on a mission to locate the body of a previously killed soldier during an operation against the outlawed PKK organization. Initially, five fatalities were reported, but the number has increased as investigations and search operations continue.

Minister of National Defense, Yasar Guler, visited the region with senior Armed Forces commanders to conduct inspections and attend farewell ceremonies for the fallen soldiers, as reported by the Turkish newspaper “Hurriyet.” Authorities are continuing their investigations to fully clarify the circumstances of the incident.
