Kosovo Police, in collaboration with Kosovo Customs, have intercepted an attempt to smuggle over 16,000 counterfeit Swiss Francs into the country. The incident occurred on July 12, 2025, around 9:15 PM, at the Hani i Elezit border crossing.
Authorities stopped an Audi A2 with North Macedonian license plates, driven by a North Macedonian national identified as S. Xh., born in Skopje in 1981. During a detailed inspection, plastic bags filled with 8,076 suspected counterfeit 2 CHF coins, totaling 16,152 CHF, were discovered hidden under the vehicle’s front seats.
The prosecutor for Serious Crimes has ordered the suspect’s 48-hour detention, and a criminal case has been initiated for the offense of “Counterfeiting Money.” Both the vehicle and the suspected counterfeit currency have been seized as material evidence.
Kosovo Police reaffirmed their commitment to combating financial and cross-border crime, stating their dedication to preventing and fighting all forms of cross-border criminality, with a particular focus on offenses that threaten the financial system and public security.
