Two Arrested in Gjakova Following Deaths of Two Construction Workers

The Basic Prosecution in Gjakova announced today that two individuals have been detained for 48 hours following the tragic deaths of two construction workers. The incident occurred on July 21, 2025, at a construction site in Gjakova.

Investigation Underway

Upon being informed by the Kosovo Police about the incident, the Chief Prosecutor, the duty prosecutor, relevant Kosovo Police units, and the Labor Inspectorate immediately responded to the scene.

“By order of the State Prosecutor, the bodies have been sent for autopsy to the Institute of Forensic Medicine (IML),” the announcement states.

Charges and Further Actions

The two detained individuals are being held on suspicion of the criminal offense of “Destruction, damage, or removal of protective equipment and endangering safety at the workplace.”

The prosecution stated that within the legally mandated timeframe, a request for pre-trial detention will be filed against them. The State Prosecutor’s Office, in close coordination with the Kosovo Police, is undertaking all necessary actions to shed light on this case.
