At least 19 people have died after a Bangladeshi air force training jet crashed into the campus of a private elementary and high school in Dhaka today, a fire official confirmed.

Casualties and Emergency Response

More than 50 people, including children and adults, have been hospitalized with burns, a doctor from the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery told reporters.

The F-7 BGI training aircraft of the Bangladesh Air Force crashed into the campus of the private “Milestone School and College” in Dhaka’s northern Uttara district, officials said. The military confirmed the incident, stating, “A Bangladesh Air Force F-7 BGI training aircraft crashed in Uttara.”

The plane struck a building, igniting a fire. “A third-grade student was brought in dead, and three more people aged 12, 14, and 40 were admitted to the hospital,” said Bidhan Sarker, head of the burn unit at a Dhaka hospital.

The government has pledged an investigation and aid for the victims.

This incident occurs just over a month after an Air India plane crashed into a medical college hostel in Ahmedabad, India. In that earlier tragedy, 241 of the 242 passengers and crew died, along with 19 people on the ground.
