Canada will officially recognize the State of Palestine in September, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced on Wednesday, according to CNN.

“Canada has always been committed to a two-state solution — an independent, sustainable, and sovereign Palestinian state living side by side with the State of Israel in peace and security,” Carney said, standing alongside Foreign Minister Anita Anand.

Canada’s decision follows similar announcements by France, which confirmed it will recognize Palestine in September, and the United Kingdom, which has indicated it will do the same if Israel does not meet certain conditions — including agreeing to a ceasefire in Gaza.
