Kosovo MP Duda Balje joined Thursday’s mass protest in Prishtina against the Specialist Chambers in The Hague, openly expressing regret over her past support for its formation.
In a statement, Balje called her vote for the court the biggest mistake of her political career, citing the immense pressure she was under at the time.
“I truly feel it deeply. Yes, I did vote for this court, I must admit that. But I consider it the biggest mistake of my career,” she said.
Balje explained that her vote was made with the belief that Kosovo needed to present a “clean page” to the international community, but she now sees the outcome differently.
“There was a lot of pressure. In the end, I voted because I thought it was the way to show a clean image to the world. But today, I would remove that vote immediately,” she declared.
Having visited The Hague herself, Balje described the experience as emotionally difficult, and expressed hope for justice:
“It’s not easy truly. I believe there was a mistake. Regardless, we are all in Kosovo and we share the same goal. I pray to Allah for a positive turn,” she added.
