Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti stated briefly before reporters that “we must wait for the full ruling” regarding the Constitutional Court’s decision on the convening of the new parliamentary session.
Kurti made the remarks after attending the 26th anniversary ceremony of the Kosovo Customs and the graduation of a new class of customs officers. He did not take further questions from the media.
The question posed to Kurti was whether Vetëvendosje (VV) will respect the Constitutional Court’s ruling.
The Kosovo Constitutional Court ruled that the deputies must elect the new Speaker of Parliament through an open vote within 30 days. The court also stated that the same candidate can only be voted on up to three times, and all deputies must participate in the vote.
This decision has been criticized by VV, the winning party of the February elections.
Between April 15 and July 26, deputies held 54 sessions aimed at constituting the assembly but failed to elect a Speaker. Since May 1, the session chair, Avni Dehari, changed the agenda to avoid open voting and proposed forming a commission to oversee a secret ballot for Speaker election. This was opposed by PDK, LDK, AAK, and the Serbian List, who refused to nominate members for the commission.
