Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski has reacted to last night’s incident, in which a military drone was shot down in eastern Poland, while the Defense Minister confirmed that the drone was of Russian origin.
On the social media platform X, Sikorski described it as “another violation of our airspace from the east,” adding that it confirms Poland’s most important mission within NATO is the defense of its territory.
He stated that an official protest will be submitted “against the perpetrators of the incident,” without naming the country believed to be responsible.
Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz said that the drone, which exploded during the night in Poland, is of Russian origin, according to The Guardian.
“Russia is provoking NATO countries again, following drone incidents in Romania, Lithuania, and Latvia,” he said.
“This is happening at a particularly sensitive moment, as peace talks are ongoing. It occurs at a time when there is hope that the war initiated by Russia – a war against the Ukrainian state, but also a war that threatens the security of NATO countries – might come to an end,” the minister added.
Last night, an unidentified object fell in a cornfield in the village of Osiny, in Łuków County, Lubelszczyzna region of Poland. The police found burned metal and plastic debris at the scene.
