Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has accused Russia of trying to avoid organizing a crucial meeting with President Vladimir Putin aimed at finding a resolution to the war sparked by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Moscow Sending “Disrespectful Signals”
In his daily video address, Zelensky stated that Moscow is deliberately evading the necessary talks:
“At the moment, the signals coming from Russia are simply disrespectful. They want to avoid organizing a meeting,” Zelensky said.
Ukraine Holding Talks on Security Guarantees
Earlier in the day, the Ukrainian leader confirmed that Kyiv is holding intensive discussions with its allies to determine what security guarantees they are prepared to offer. According to Zelensky, the United States has already signaled support for negotiations aimed at ending the conflict.
These discussions involve national security advisors and military officials, and Zelensky expects clearer outcomes within 10 days.
Possible First Direct Talks Since Invasion
If progress is made, Zelensky said he would be ready to hold direct talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin for the first time since the start of the invasion in 2022.
The potential meeting could mark a critical step toward peace negotiations, though tensions remain high and Russia has yet to show willingness to engage.
