NATO’s support for Ukraine remains steadfast and continues to grow, Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte stated on Friday during a visit to Kyiv.
After meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Rutte announced that additional plans are underway to secure NATO funding to guarantee “a steady flow of U.S. weapons to Ukraine.”
He also referenced the multilateral meeting on Monday at the White House, noting that U.S. President Donald Trump made it clear that “the United States will be fully engaged in providing security guarantees for Ukraine.”
“We are all working together – Ukraine, Europeans, and the United States – to ensure that these security guarantees are at a level that prevents Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin from ever attempting to attack Ukraine again,” Rutte said at the press conference.
He added that the security guarantees agreement will consist of two layers: strengthening the Ukrainian military and commitments from the U.S. and Europe to deter any future aggression from Russia.
According to Rutte, discussions on the deployment of foreign troops in Ukraine as part of the guarantees are ongoing, but “it is too early to say what the outcome will be.”
President Zelensky emphasized that “Ukraine needs security guarantees so that we, our children, and grandchildren can be confident that Russia will not attack us. These are security guarantees against an aggressor.”
