Nathan Gill, former Member of the European Parliament (MEP), has admitted to accepting bribes to make statements in favor of Russia during 2018–2019.
Gill, a former representative of the BREXIT Party, pleaded guilty to eight charges of bribery, according to BBC and other UK media outlets. He acknowledged being paid to make specific declarations that aligned with Russian interests.
Political Career
Gill served as an MEP from 2014 to 2020, initially representing Wales for UKIP and later for the Brexit Party from 2019. During his first term, reports indicate that he made statements in the European Parliament that “supported a particular narrative” benefiting Russia concerning events in Ukraine.
Details of the Allegations
According to the charges, Gill agreed to receive financial advantages—specifically money—in exchange for these statements, both in the European Parliament and in media outlets such as 112 Ukraine. He reportedly acted in accordance with requests from Oleg Voloshyn, a former politician from the pro-Russian opposition party “Opposition Platform for Life.”
This case highlights ongoing concerns about foreign influence on European politicians and the manipulation of narratives for geopolitical gain.
