Ten people were killed and 30 others injured today in a car bomb explosion outside the headquarters of a paramilitary unit in Quetta, Pakistan.

Police reported that all six attackers were killed during the incident. Prior to detonating the explosives, the assailants engaged in an intense exchange of gunfire with security forces.

No group has claimed responsibility, but authorities suspect separatist militants in the restive province of Balochistan, whose capital is Quetta.

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the security forces for their swift response and for neutralizing the attackers.

Balochistan, located in southwestern Pakistan along the Gulf of Oman and bordering Afghanistan, has long been a hotspot for the Baloch Liberation Army, which seeks independence from Pakistan.

The attack follows a recent suicide bombing near a stadium in Quetta that killed 13 people and injured 30, during a rally of a nationalist party.
