Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán issued sharp criticism from Copenhagen, where EU leaders and the European Political Community (EPC) are holding their informal summit.

In a post on X, Orbán warned of a dangerous escalation, accusing Brussels of pushing for war through the proposals on the table.

“Copenhagen, Day 2. The situation is serious. On the table are open proposals for war. They want to hand over EU funds to Ukraine. They are trying to accelerate Ukraine’s membership with every possible legal maneuver,” Orbán wrote.

“They want to finance arms deliveries. All these proposals clearly show that the Brussels team wants war. I will firmly stand by Hungary’s position, but this summit also proves that the coming months will be characterized by the threat of war. We will need the support of the entire political community and every Hungarian who wants peace,” he added.

The Copenhagen summit, chaired by Danish PM Mette Frederiksen, focused on European security challenges, hybrid threats, migration, and continued support for Ukraine.

According to EU Council sources, leaders are discussing the use of frozen Russian assets to finance aid for Ukraine, alongside ways to fast-track Kyiv’s EU accession process. These proposals have sparked heated debate among member states, reflecting deep divisions over how to handle the conflict and military assistance.

Kosovo is represented at the summit by President Vjosa Osmani.
