The acting Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, has accused Serbia on Tuesday of interfering in the upcoming local elections scheduled for October 12, claiming that Belgrade is making promises of jobs and financial benefits to influence voters.

Speaking during a session of the caretaker government, Kurti stated that the recent actions of Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić and other Serbian state and non-state actors constitute direct interference in Kosovo’s democratic process.

“Promises of jobs, the lure of financial support, conditional benefits, and social blackmail, as well as statements by Serbian officials claiming that only the Serb List (Lista Srpska) defends Serbia in Kosovo — as recently said by former Serbian Prime Minister Miloš Vučević and echoed by President Vučić himself — are repeated methods of Serbia’s interference in Kosovo,” Kurti said.

Kurti called on the European Union to condemn Serbia’s interference and to impose sanctions against Belgrade for undermining the integrity of Kosovo’s elections.
