The Director of the Serbian Office for Propaganda Against Kosovo, Petar Petković, sparked controversy with his latest statement, claiming that Belgrade does not interfere in Kosovo’s elections because Kosovo is Serbia. He further asserted that the Serb List will reclaim four municipalities in the north and secure victories south of the Ibar River.
Petković openly stated that the Serb List enjoys the full support of Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, saying:
“Belgrade does not interfere in the elections in Kosovo, because Kosovo is Serbia. Those interfering and openly supporting the violence of blockers in Belgrade are Kurti, who is very nervous because he knows the Serb List will reclaim the four municipalities in the north and confirm its victory south of the Ibar. Serbs in Kosovo will always have the support of Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić—until the Serb List wins.”
Observers note that Petković has consistently refused to accept the reality since 1999, when the war ended, and after Kosovo’s declaration of independence. His rhetoric is seen as an attempt to pressure local Serbs into following Belgrade’s orders, undermining Kosovo’s institutions and democratic processes.
Acting Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti responded to these statements and to President Vučić’s promise of 400 jobs for Kosovo Serbs, calling it direct interference in the local elections scheduled for October 12.
