The 2025 Nobel Prize in Literature has been awarded to Hungarian author László Krasznahorkai, the Swedish Academy announced today.
According to the Academy, Krasznahorkai received the prize for his compelling and visionary work, which, set against a backdrop of apocalyptic terror, reaffirms the power of art.
“László Krasznahorkai is a great epic writer in the Central European tradition, stretching from Kafka to Thomas Bernhard, characterized by absurdism and grotesque excess. Yet his work also incorporates threads looking eastward, adopting a more contemplative and finely calibrated tone,” the Academy said in its statement.
Krasznahorkai, author of several acclaimed novels, is a recipient of multiple prestigious literary awards, including the 2015 Man Booker International Prize.
