The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has donated specialized forensic equipment worth over €90,000 to the Kosovo Forensic Agency, during an official handover ceremony held at the Agency’s headquarters in Prishtina.
The donation includes an advanced ToolScan system, designed to strengthen the Agency’s capacity in firearms examination. Following the handover, participants visited the Ballistics Division, where forensic experts demonstrated the new equipment including the Borescope, Stereo Microscopes, and the TriggerScan system highlighting their importance in improving the accuracy and efficiency of ballistic analyses.
The new equipment marks a significant advancement in the Agency’s analytical capabilities. The ToolScan system enables experts to conduct more precise and efficient ballistic evidence analyses, contributing to the faster identification of firearms, enhanced case linkages, and stronger evidentiary support in judicial proceedings.
“The equipment handed over today represents an important step forward in enhancing the Forensic Agency’s ability to provide independent, science-based expertise, which is essential for justice, community safety, and preventing gun violence,” said Dudley Tarlton, Deputy Resident Representative of UNDP.
Shemsi Duqiri, Executive Director of the Kosovo Forensic Agency, expressed gratitude for the continued partnership and support from UNDP, emphasizing the importance of modern forensic tools in strengthening the quality and reliability of forensic services.
The ceremony was attended by representatives from the Embassies of Germany, the Netherlands, and the European Union Office, reaffirming international commitment to improving public safety and aligning local practices with regional and global standards on arms control.
The donation is part of the UNDP Security and Defense Programme, funded by the governments of Germany, Sweden, the Netherlands, France, the United Kingdom, and Norway, with support from the European Union. The initiative contributes to the implementation of the Regional Roadmap for Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW) Control 2025–2030, which aims to reduce risks associated with the proliferation of small arms and to promote regional cooperation for security.
