Netflix has decided to shut down Boss Fight Entertainment, the studio behind the game “Squid Game: Unleashed”, as part of a broader strategic restructuring of its gaming division.

The closure was confirmed by the studio’s co-founder and former CEO, David Rippy, who expressed both regret and gratitude:

“Sad news, of course, but I’m very grateful for the time we had at Netflix,” Rippy said.

Netflix acquired Boss Fight Entertainment in 2022 to expand its gaming catalog and diversify its revenue streams. However, according to David Luehmann, Director of Game Development at the studio, the time has now come to close its doors:

“After more than 10 great years of work at Boss Fight, it’s time for the studio to close.”

Despite the shutdown, the studio’s titles — including “Netflix Stories” and “Squid Game: Unleashed” — will remain available on the Netflix platform.

The move aligns with Netflix’s new gaming strategy, which shifts focus toward party games, narrative-driven titles, kids’ games, and casual experiences, under the leadership of Alain Tascan, who became President of Netflix Games last year.
