After massive demonstrations marking the first anniversary of the Novi Sad train station tragedy, where 16 lives were lost due to state negligence and corruption, AFP reports that Serbia’s student movement has become a powerful political force threatening Vučić’s grip on power.

Born out of outrage against a populist government that ignored accountability, the student movement has transformed into “one of the two most influential political groups in the country,” according to Bojan Klačar from CeSID.

While Vučić’s SNS regime hides behind bureaucracy and vague promises of ‘extraordinary elections,’ students continue to gain credibility and citizen support — something Serbia’s fragmented opposition failed to achieve.

Political experts warn that time is no longer on the regime’s side. Unless the government tackles its deep-rooted economic and energy failures, it risks losing control over the narrative — and the streets.

For many young Serbs, the message is clear: the fight is no longer about parties but about reclaiming integrity, justice, and the future of their country.
