Two Ukrainian soldiers taken prisoner were executed by Russian forces in the Zaporizhzhia region, according to the Ukrainian organization Deep State, which also released a video showing the suspected moment of the killings.

Reports indicate that the Russian soldiers who carried out the execution were eliminated roughly 20 minutes later by a Ukrainian drone. The footage is circulating widely in Ukrainian media and has sparked strong official reactions.

Dmytro Lubinets, Ukraine’s Ombudsman for Human Rights, condemned the killings, emphasizing that such incidents demonstrate the “systemic criminal behavior” of the Russian military. He also reported the incident officially to the International Committee of the Red Cross and the United Nations.

The execution of prisoners of war constitutes a serious violation of the Geneva Conventions and is considered a grave international crime.

According to the Ukrainian military intelligence agency (HUR), over 150 cases have been documented in May alone where Ukrainian soldiers were executed immediately after surrendering to Russian forces.

Kyiv accuses Moscow of employing illegal and brutal methods on the front lines. The Russian military has not yet responded to the allegations.
