Arbnor Spahiu, a former Kosovo police officer, has been released from a Serbian prison, where he had been held for several months.
Spahiu was arrested in June at the Hungary–Serbia border on charges of “aggravated murder” related to events in Banjskë, Zveçan, in 2023.
Following his release, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora (MPJD) of Kosovo stated that the charges were politically motivated and unsupported by evidence, and that his prolonged detention violated his right to a fair trial and proper treatment.
The ministry emphasized that Kosovo’s liaison office in Serbia, along with relevant institutions, monitored the case closely and ensured that Spahiu’s fundamental human rights and international justice standards were upheld.
“His release clearly confirms that Serbia’s claims in this case were unfounded, and that using the justice system for political pressure against our citizens must end,” the MPJD said, thanking both local and international institutions for supporting a fair resolution.
