At today’s government session, Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti stated that one of the key agenda items is the request for expropriation of real estate for the construction of an industrial zone in Gjakovë.

According to him, the approval of this procedure will pave the way for building Kosovo’s first ammunition factory of its kind.

“This will increase security, strengthen the army, and expand our capabilities. It is especially significant that we are approving this on the ‘Day of the Force.’ The construction of this factory will be completed by next year, with the first ammunition expected by the end of 2026. This industrial zone will also serve other investors we are in contact with for different types of military and civilian products, including drones, ‘Made in Kosovo,’” he said.

Kurti also highlighted that during the current mandate, the government has quadrupled the defense budget and doubled the number of soldiers.

“We have equipped the army with new and modern systems from NATO member states, with over €430 million spent on armaments during this mandate. In the next mandate, we plan to invest over €1 billion. By strengthening the army, we secure the Republic, and by building up the security forces, we reinforce our partnerships with allies,” he added.
