Stefan Janjić, MP and General Secretary of the opposition party Serbia Center (SRCE), described his meeting with the Speaker of the Serbian Parliament, Ana Brnabić, held on Wednesday, regarding the blockade around the National Assembly and the controversial pro-government tent settlement known as the so-called “Ćacilend.”

Janjić told N1 that Brnabić assured the opposition that MPs would be allowed unobstructed access to the main entrance of the National Assembly—something he openly admitted he did not believe.

He reiterated that the fence blocking the entire parliamentary plaza, including pedestrian access, must be removed. The blockade surrounds the months-long police-secured tent camp occupied by ruling-party supporters.

According to Janjić, Brnabić appeared “visibly shaken” during their meeting:

“She urgently demanded a meeting with us, and in the past two years I have never seen her more distressed. She came in clearly agitated—practically neurotic—and said she did not expect such behavior, even though we warned her the day before what would happen if the fence was not removed,” he said.

He added that SRCE maintains the same demand: the complete removal of the fence.

Janjić also stated that Brnabić insisted the area in question was only partially under her authority, claiming her jurisdiction extends merely to the parking area of the National Assembly.

“She insisted that what happened to us on Tuesday—when the police tried to check our IDs—was not under her control. She said security personnel intervened only after they realized something was happening, and that we entered afterward. However, what happened yesterday took place directly on the steps of the National Assembly—clearly within parliamentary jurisdiction,” Janjić said.

According to him, in their first meeting Brnabić asked for 48 hours to resolve the issue.
