The Embassy of Switzerland in Kosovo has issued a public statement debunking widespread claims that the Swiss labor market is seeking 85,000 foreign workers with salaries allegedly reaching €6,500. The story, which circulated heavily on social media and various online portals in recent days, has now been officially dismissed as false information.
In its statement, the Swiss Embassy warned the public to exercise caution regarding misleading media reports.
“Beware of fake news! Recently, social media and online newspapers have spread claims that Switzerland is opening its labor market to 85,000 foreign workers. These reports are false!” the Embassy declared.
The clarification emphasizes that Switzerland has not changed its immigration quotas for citizens of third countries (non-Schengen states) for the year 2026.
Referring to the official press release of 19 November 2025, the Embassy underlined that the Swiss Federal Council decided to maintain the existing quota levels.
According to the official figures:
- A maximum of 8,500 highly qualified workers from third countries may be recruited in 2026.
- This includes 4,500 residence permits (B) and 4,000 short-term permits (L).
The Embassy’s intervention comes amid growing concern over the rapid spread of misinformation targeting jobseekers in the Western Balkans, often exploiting economic hardship and hopes for employment abroad.
