Former Kosovo Minister of Foreign Affairs, Meliza Haradinaj, has sharply criticized Serbia after it walked out of a United Nations vote concerning the return of Ukrainian children abducted by Russia.
Haradinaj stated that Belgrade’s stance comes as no surprise, emphasizing that Serbia cannot vote against Russia because doing so would force it to confront the crimes of its own past.
“Serbia walked out of the UN vote on the return of Ukrainian children abducted by Russia. Condemning Russia would mean confronting its own genocidal past: over 1,200 children killed during the war in Kosovo,” Haradinaj wrote.
She added that the international community must abandon the notion that Serbia is somehow caught between the West and the East.
“The world must stop pretending that Serbia stands between East and West. Its instinctive alignment is with Moscow,” Haradinaj concluded.
