The commander of NATO’s peacekeeping mission in Kosovo, KFOR, Major General Özkan Ulutaş, said that regular communication with the Serbian Army is essential for preventing any potential escalation.

Ulutaş made these comments after his visit to Serbia, where he met with the head of the Serbian Armed Forces, General Milan Mojsilović.

“Regular and open communication between KFOR and the Serbian Armed Forces is vital for addressing important developments and preventing any potential risk of escalation in a timely, appropriate, transparent, and constructive manner. In the weeks and months ahead, I will do my part to ensure we continue making full use of this regular communication,” Ulutaş said in a statement.

During his first mandate as KFOR commander, Ulutaş had also visited Belgrade.

He thanked Mojsilović for the hospitality, saying that they had “already developed an open and productive cooperation during my first mandate as KFOR Commander. I look forward to meeting him again soon.”

The KFOR chief said the mission is committed to providing security that “creates the necessary conditions for political dialogue.”

“NATO, including through KFOR’s daily work, continues to support the EU-facilitated dialogue between Prishtina and Belgrade as a framework for addressing outstanding issues in a way that benefits all people,” Ulutaş said.
