Military analyst Aleksandar Radić commented on Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić’s announcement that a factory for highly sophisticated drones will open in Serbia by late March or early April in cooperation with a major foreign power. Radić suggested that Vučić’s statements appear to point toward the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

“So far, he has announced tens of thousands of kamikaze drones, which would either be domestically produced based on imported commercial components or linked to the UAE. His statement seems to indicate the UAE, similar to projects like Belgrade Waterfront or the General Staff building,” Radić told FoNet.

He recalled that Vučić, during a recent visit to Niš, spoke about the massive introduction of kamikaze drones, specifically mentioning:

  • Small FPV drones purchased from the UAE
  • Larger SM2 kamikaze drones also acquired from the UAE in recent years

Radić clarified that these are not high-end drones in terms of size or capabilities.

He also mentioned prior negotiations with Airbus for Serbia to participate in producing European drones, but noted that project stalled, as well as talks about Turkish drones (e.g., Bayraktar TB2) which did not materialize for Serbia.

Additionally, he referenced the CSG purchase of 51% of MUST Solutions in Belgrade, which produces aircraft engines, but stated that the outcome of this long-term project is still unclear.

“For now, the Serbian military possesses kamikaze drones, and Vučić clearly favors this class of small drones that function as projectiles, which so far have been sourced from the UAE,” Radić concluded.

Vučić himself stated:

“By late March or early April, I expect the opening of the first large drone factory in our country. These will be highly sophisticated drones, not the ‘Komarac 1’ or ‘Komarac 2’, and will be developed with a major foreign power.”
