The US was told of Israel’s plans to strike Iran, but did not approve the move, the officials said, speaking on condition of anonymity.
Both NBC and CNN reported that officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Israel gave Washington advance warning.
“We did not approve the response,” CNN quoted an official as saying.
The White House and Pentagon have yet to comment on the reported attack, which Iran says involved only a few drones.
Iran has dismissed reports of a missile attack, with an official saying “the US media reports are not true”.
