The Central Election Commission (CEC) has confirmed that the recounting of ballots is ongoing at the Counting and Results Centre, following official decisions ordering recounts at specific polling stations.

According to the CEC, the recounting process has now been completed in 22 municipalities, marking significant progress in the post-election verification phase.

CEC spokesperson Valmir Elezi stated that since the recount began on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at 18:00, more than 58 percent of polling stations have been recounted.

“From the start of this process on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at 18:00, until today, Saturday, January 24, 2026, at 16:00, over 58% — or approximately 1,500 out of a total of 2,557 polling stations — have been recounted,” Elezi said.

Verification Continues, Diaspora Vote Count to Follow

Alongside the recount, the verification process is continuing, with the CEC announcing that the counting of diaspora votes will begin in the coming days, once the current phase is finalized.

The recount was ordered after irregularities were identified at several polling stations, as part of the CEC’s efforts to ensure transparency, accuracy and the integrity of the electoral process.

Election authorities emphasized that the process is being carried out under strict procedural standards, with observers present, and that final results will only be certified after all verification stages are completed.
