A U.S. aircraft carrier and several supporting warships have arrived in the Middle East, two American officials told Reuters on Monday, significantly expanding President Donald Trump’s military options to protect U.S. forces or potentially conduct operations against Iran.

According to the officials, the USS Abraham Lincoln, accompanied by multiple destroyers, has entered the Middle East region, which falls under the authority of the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM).

The deployment comes amid heightened regional tensions. President Trump stated on Thursday that the United States had an “armada” moving toward Iran, while adding that he hoped military force would not be necessary.

The arrival of the carrier strike group enhances U.S. deterrence capabilities in the region and signals Washington’s readiness to respond to any emerging security threats.
