German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has declared that the Iranian regime has lost its legitimacy, stating that it remains in power solely through violence and repression against its own population.

“A regime that can survive only through brutal force and terror has its days numbered,” Merz said, adding that even if its downfall takes weeks, the loss of legitimacy is undeniable. He cited tens of thousands of victims in recent anti-government protests as evidence of the mullahs’ rule through fear and coercion.

Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump has intensified pressure on Tehran, warning of severe consequences if Iran fails to cooperate. “If Iran does not come to the negotiating table, the next strike will be far worse,” Trump wrote, referring to U.S. attacks on Iranian nuclear sites last June. He emphasized that the objective remains a fair, nuclear-free agreement, stressing that “time is of the essence.”

Diplomatic Efforts Underway

Diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions are also ongoing. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi spoke by phone with his Turkish counterpart, Hakan Fidan, to discuss ways to prevent escalation amid domestic protests and external threats.

According to Iran’s Foreign Ministry, both officials rejected foreign threats and interventions, highlighting the importance of cooperation to maintain regional peace and stability. The call was confirmed by Turkish authorities.
