At the Basic Court in Prishtina, Thursday’s session in the case against Bedri Shabani and Muharrem Qerimi, who are accused of espionage, is expected to continue behind closed doors.

In this case, Bedri Shabani and Muharrem Qerimi are charged with espionage, while Qerimi also faces charges of illegal weapons possession, according to Betimi për Drejtësi.

From the office of the presiding judge, Rrahman Beqiri, it was confirmed that the session will proceed with expert testimonies, and until these are concluded, the hearing will remain closed to the public.

On Wednesday, upon the request of Shabani’s defense attorney, Besnik Berisha, the session was closed to the public to allow experts to present findings from the psychiatric evaluation of Shabani.

“To protect the dignity of Bedri Shabani and the confidentiality of information, which is legally classified as privileged and cannot be shared without his consent, we propose that this part of the trial be held behind closed doors,” said Berisha. The court approved this request.

Previously, the session scheduled for November 20, 2025, was canceled because a psychiatric examination of Bedri Shabani had been ordered.

The Special Prosecutor’s Office indictment has been confirmed by both the Basic Court and the Court of Appeal.

The Special Prosecution of the Republic of Kosovo (SPRK) filed charges on February 19, 2025, alleging that Shabani and Qerimi collected and sent information and documents to the Serbian BIA regarding the Kosovo Liberation Army (UÇK), its commanders and members, the Police, the Kosovo Intelligence Agency, and the Kosovo Police Inspectorate, as well as specific incidents and sites, including the Reçak massacre.

According to the SPRK, these actions aimed to instigate widespread interethnic conflict in Kosovo, create false narratives linking the UÇK Military Hospital to the so-called “Yellow House” organ trafficking allegations, and cast doubt on the truth of the Reçak massacre.

In summary, Shabani and Qerimi are charged with espionage, and Qerimi additionally faces illegal weapons charges.
