The leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), Lumir Abdixhiku, has rejected the invitation of the acting Prime Minister and leader of the Vetëvendosje Movement, Albin Kurti, for a consultative meeting ahead of the constitutive session scheduled for April 15.

Through a lengthy post on social media on Tuesday, Abdixhiku emphasized that the words and political stances expressed by Vetëvendosje towards LDK over the years are incompatible with such communication.

“In politics, as in life, words have weight. They are a reflection of character, values, and intentions. […] As much as we believe in dialogue, cooperation, and human and political communication, such a meeting — even a consultative one — would be a fatal crossing of human and political dignity,” Abdixhiku wrote on Facebook.

He accused Vetëvendosje of using divisive, offensive, and labeling language against LDK, its members, and its voters “for months, and in fact for years — before, during, and after the campaign.” Among the insults, Abdixhiku mentioned labels such as “animals,” “collaborators of Serbia,” and “the suffocation of LDK.”

“Amid the swamp of spittle against us — I, LDK, and our voters — we do not find ourselves even for consultation,” he added.

The LDK leader emphasized that the party he leads remains loyal to its principles and will not accept suggestions from anyone on how it should act.

“LDK — to be understood well — remains faithful to the decisions, beliefs, and words said before the campaign, during the campaign, and after the campaign. Towards everyone — equally,” Abdixhiku stressed.

He confirmed that LDK will not obstruct the process of constituting the Assembly on April 15 and recognizes the legitimate and constitutional right of the first party to form the government.

“In case of failure, LDK recognizes the right of any other party to build a parliamentary majority. Our stances are clear,” Abdixhiku wrote.

On Monday (yesterday), Kurti sent a letter inviting Abdixhiku for consultations, offering three different time slots on Wednesday or Thursday.

Today, the acting Speaker of the Assembly, Glauk Konjufca, admitted that without a coalition it will be difficult for Vetëvendosje to form the government.
