Antonio Costa, President of the European Council, is conducting a diplomatic tour of six Western Balkan countries ahead of the EU–Western Balkans Summit. During the tour, he will meet regional leaders and co-chair a high-level meeting on June 5 in Tivat.
Today, Costa is visiting Tirana, where he will meet with Prime Minister Edi Rama and President Bajram Begaj.
During his stay in the Albanian capital, he will also meet with students from the Tirana campus of the College of Europe.
According to an official media announcement:
Prime Minister Rama will host European Council President Antonio Costa on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, as part of his diplomatic visits to six Western Balkan countries ahead of the EU–Western Balkans Summit, which will be held on June 5 in Tivat, Montenegro.
The summit is taking place six months after the previous summit in Brussels and aims to reaffirm the strengthening of relations between the European Union and the Western Balkans.
Agenda in Tirana
- 11:15 – 12:00 – Bilateral meeting between the two delegations
- 12:15 – 12:45 – Joint press conference by Rama and Costa
Visit to Kosovo
After Tirana, Costa will travel to Pristina.
On June 3, he is scheduled to meet Acting President Albulena Haxhiu and outgoing Prime Minister Albin Kurti.
He is also expected to hold meetings with leaders of Kosovo’s opposition parties.
According to the European Council:
“On Wednesday, June 3, President Costa will travel to Pristina to meet Acting President Albulena Haxhiu, outgoing Prime Minister Albin Kurti, and leaders of the opposition parties.”
The visit is part of broader European Union efforts to deepen engagement with the Western Balkans ahead of the upcoming regional summit in Montenegro.
