The President of the Republic of Albania, Bajram Begaj, has submitted his comments to the Constitutional Court regarding the annulment of the decree for the partial local elections in the Municipality of Tirana.

Through the letter, Begaj asks the Constitutional Court to declare itself incompetent regarding the decree, to reject Erion Veliaj’s appeal against his dismissal, and to instruct the Central Election Commission (CEC) to prepare the elections for the Municipality of Tirana.

“The Constitutional Court must immediately declare the lack of competence to review Decree No. 350, dated 1.10.2025, immediately lift the suspension it has imposed on the decree, and release the Institution of the President of the Republic from the status of an interested party, because the President’s decree cannot be the subject of review in this matter. Otherwise, the procedure may proceed to the end, but it will be unconstitutional until the end,” the letter states, according to Klan TV.

The session at the Constitutional Court that will review the case regarding Erion Veliaj’s dismissal will be held on October 31.
