British military aircraft were involved in two interception missions this week targeting Russian planes that approached NATO airspace, reports Rks News.
According to the UK Ministry of Defence, the first incident occurred on Tuesday, when two Royal Air Force (RAF) Typhoon jets took off from Malbork Air Base in Poland to intercept a Russian reconnaissance aircraft over the Baltic Sea.
Then on Thursday, a similar mission took place when another unidentified aircraft departing from the Kaliningrad region was intercepted by two more British Typhoons.
UK Minister for the Armed Forces, Luke Pollard, said these missions demonstrate the alliance’s readiness and effectiveness.
“This mission shows our ability to… defend the alliance’s airspace wherever and whenever necessary, keeping us safe at home and strong abroad.”
