A spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Guo Jiakun, stated that there are no winners in trade wars and tariff wars, according to Rks News.
“There are no winners in trade wars and tariff wars, and protectionism is not a way out. What the United States should do is correct its wrong practices and resolve trade disputes with all countries, including China, through consultations based on equality, mutual respect, and mutual benefits,” Guo said, according to the Associated Press.
He added that tariffs violate the rules of the WTO (World Trade Organization), “harm the common interests of people in all countries, and do not help solve the problems of the United States itself.”
“It is clear to everyone that more and more countries are opposing the unilateral actions of the United States, such as the imposition of tariffs,” he concluded.
