The Mayor of Prishtina, Përparim Rama, has strongly reacted to the financial difficulties faced by the public waste management company “KRM Pastrimi,” blaming the company’s leadership for mismanagement and irresponsibility.
Rama warned that due to poor management, workers’ salaries and landfill operations are at risk, which could have serious consequences for the city.
“Pastrimi is heading toward bankruptcy because of mismanagement. This public company, which should be keeping the city clean, has become a burden due to the incompetence of its leadership,” said Rama in a video message.
He added that citizens are already feeling the impact and that the managers, despite receiving high salaries, have failed to lead the company effectively.
Rama announced he will address the Municipal Assembly on May 6, asking for emergency financial assistance to protect workers and services.
On the other hand, “Pastrimi” blames the municipality for the crisis, claiming that the city has not implemented the waste management regulation approved by the Assembly.
According to the company, instead of direct payments to its account, the Municipality redirected waste collection fees to itself, creating unpaid debts of €2.7 million since January 2025.
The company insists it has received the highest possible audit rating from the National Audit Office and has turned a €1.5 million loss into a gross profit of 5% for 2024.
