Albania has passed the draft of the European Union’s temporary common position in the COELA working group meeting held today in Brussels, according to Euronews.
The intergovernmental conference is expected to take place on May 26.
Meanwhile, tomorrow the Interim Benchmark Assessment Report, known as the IBAR report, is expected to move forward to the ambassadors’ group (COREPER).
The Interim Benchmark Assessment Report (IBAR) is a technical document prepared by the European Commission that evaluates a candidate country’s progress in meeting the criteria required for opening negotiation chapters with the EU.
At this stage, the IBAR serves as an initial institutional “screening” mechanism to determine whether Albania has met the minimum conditions necessary to proceed to more advanced stages of the integration process.
COREPER is the body responsible for preparing decisions for the EU Council and plays a key role in the political screening of files before they receive official approval, while COELA is the working group dealing with enlargement issues and the technical coordination of accession negotiations for candidate countries.
