Death of Pope Francis: Saturday Declared a National Day of Mourning in Albania – National Flag to Fly at Half-Mast

In honor of Pope Francis, Saturday has been declared a national day of mourning in Albania, with the national flag ordered to be flown at half-mast.

The decision was made by the Council of Ministers on Thursday.

In accordance with Article 100 of the Constitution and point 4 of Article 4 of Law No. 8926, dated July 22, 2002, “On the form and dimensions of the national flag, the content of the national anthem, the form and dimensions of the coat of arms of the Republic of Albania, and the manner of their use,” as amended, upon the proposal of the Prime Minister, the Council of Ministers has

DECIDED:

  1. To declare Saturday, April 26, 2025, a national day of mourning, as a sign of grief, respect, and gratitude for His Holiness, Pope Francis, who passed away after an illness.
  2. To lower the national flag to half-mast at all state and public institutions.
  3. To invite all public and private radio and television stations to broadcast solemn music throughout the national day of mourning.
  4. To assign all state and public institutions the responsibility for implementing this decision.

This decision enters into force immediately.
