The president of the Serb Democratic Party (SDS), Milan Miličević, has once again urged Milorad Dodik to step down as President of Republika Srpska (RS). He suggested that all political actors in the entity should then come together to protect its institutions.
“We in SDS will respond to a meeting with you only after you resign as President of RS, in accordance with the RS Constitution. Since you are unable to unite all Serbs in this crucial moment, you should do so for the sake of RS,” Miličević wrote in an open letter to Dodik.
SDS lawmakers will continue to participate in the work of the RS National Assembly, the highest legislative body in the entity. Their goal, Miličević stated, is to prevent Dodik’s “reckless policies from leading RS into an abyss and eventual collapse.”
His remarks come ahead of a key court ruling in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) on Wednesday, where Dodik faces sentencing for refusing to implement decisions of the High Representative. Despite Dodik inviting opposition leaders to a meeting, Miličević dismissed the invitation as contradictory, accusing him of simultaneously “insulting, belittling, and spreading falsehoods about SDS.”
“The legal proceedings against you are the result of poor political decisions you have made continuously, from your first entry into politics until today,” Miličević asserted.
He accused Dodik of opening “Pandora’s box” back in 1998 when he first came to power with foreign backing, allegedly overriding the will of the Serb people. Miličević argued that Dodik’s long-term alignment with international actors has now turned against him.
“We have warned you about your harmful policies all along. Now, the mechanisms and imposed measures you once accepted are being used against you,” the SDS leader concluded.
