The President of the United States, Donald Trump, has urged Republicans to support an extension of a key surveillance law, FISA Section 702, emphasizing its critical importance for military operations, including those related to Iran.

“Our military urgently needs FISA 702, and it is one of the reasons we have achieved such significant success on the battlefield,” Trump stated.

He described the law as “vital,” despite ongoing criticism and concerns regarding citizens’ privacy.

The provision is part of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), which allows U.S. intelligence agencies to collect communications of foreign nationals outside the United States without a court warrant.

The law is set to expire on April 20, and security officials have warned of potential “blind spots” in intelligence gathering if it is not renewed. Meanwhile, civil rights organizations across the political spectrum caution that such surveillance powers could pose risks to individual privacy.
