German Ambassador to Kosovo, Jorn Rohde, has raised serious concerns about environmental and health hazards at the Mirash landfill, where Prishtina’s waste is collected.

In a video shared on Facebook, the German Embassy described the situation as alarming, with severe pollution affecting the air, water, and soil.

Due to the urgency of the issue, a joint delegation from GIZ, KfW, FES, and the Kosovo Landfill Management Company visited the site to assess the damage and explore sustainable waste management solutions.

“German Development Cooperation is working with the Kosovo Landfill Management Company to address these urgent issues and limit the damage. A joint opening visit with GIZ, KfW, and FES – because sustainable waste management is essential for a cleaner and healthier future,” the embassy stated.

Ambassador Rohde was seen inspecting the landfill firsthand, underscoring the pressing need for immediate action.
