The conflict between Hezbollah militants, backed by Iran, and Israeli forces in southern Lebanon continued over the weekend, just days after the parties signed a new agreement, CNN reports.

The Israeli military said it struck three “Hezbollah command centers” in Nabatieh and Mayfadoun in southern Lebanon on Sunday. It also stated that Israeli forces destroyed a launcher allegedly used by Hezbollah to carry out attacks against them.

In a separate statement on Monday, Hezbollah said Israeli forces targeted residential buildings in Nabatieh and Mayfadoun and carried out additional strikes, describing them as “a blatant violation of the ceasefire.”

Additional context: An agreement signed on Friday in Washington, which both sides described as a first step, provides for Israel to withdraw troops from two areas in southern Lebanon. However, just two days after signing the deal, Israel approved the continuation of military operations in the south of the country.

Iran has called for the full withdrawal of Israeli forces from Lebanon as part of a final settlement with the United States.
